Deliberate Writing Practice
As I write and keep progressing it becomes really important that just writing is not enough to improve.
I have to be intentional with my practice that way I can work on my skills and improve.
As a warm up I will be participating in the poetry marathon. Beyond that I am still sketching a longer writing challenge. I want it to help me create work I am proud of and to share it with world irrespective of how good I think it is.
Analogy of writing with exams
I am writing my exams and trying to do an analogy with writing.
Here’s what I see when I compare examination with writing.
In school we read and learn, practice and solve questions depending on the kind of course you are studying. After all this you write exams.
In writing you practice and write consistently but we end there most of the time . At regular intervals we need to work on projects we plan on releasing this is like the exams also with exams most build towards a grand goal (certification). For poets the analogy would be that individual poems are like exams while the poetry collection is a the certification.
We can choose not to write the exams but taking on an exam brings on a lot of accountability.
You can choose not to write to share to the world but writing what you will read so others can read would help you be accountable.
I need to start writing exams when it comes to writing.
